How Much is an Accountability Coach?

Here’s the most comprehensive round-up of pricing options for Accountability Coaches / Accountability Partners

Setting long-term goals can feel overwhelming without a clear place to start. The concept of an “accountability coach” has entered a mainstream context – and it’s really the evolution of an accountability buddy. Except this doesn’t depend on the whims and availability of friends or family.  An accountability coach can assist you in sticking to habits and timelines, strategize with you and cheer you on toward that end goal, whatever that may be. They hold you to your goals and help you overcome any potential roadblocks along the way.  We canvased the internet to try and find all the options that are out there right now. Did we miss any? Evaluating Cost

We are in the golden age of coaching – there seems to be a coach for everything under the sun. Any type of coach can help with accountability in their given area of expertise (like how a trainer provides accountability to exercise!). But as you think about what you need in terms of accountability, think about these key factors:

  1. What am I getting for the cost? Are they following up with me?

  2. How often will they be in touch, will they be in touch at the times I most need support?

  3. What style of communication do they use and is that best for me?

  4. Can I depend on them coming through; strategizing, holding me to my goals, and reminding me of my “why”

It’s important to find a coach that is best suited for your needs and offers a service that will help you succeed. Many accountability coaching sites hide their costs and strategies until you schedule a consultation. But we did some digging, for you, so you can see the options out there.

What’s the difference between an Accountability Coach and an Accountability Buddy / Accountability Partner?

At the highest level, the options for accountability are typically one of these two options:

  1. An accountability coach is typically a pro who focuses on you (you aren’t having to ask them about their day and their goals). You pay this person to focus on you and provide this service.

  2. An accountability buddy or an accountability partner is someone you find and do a “trade” with – you hold them accountable and they hold you accountable. You may find them in your community or through a service that makes these peer-to-peer connections (we’ve included some examples of those here with their costs).

Check out this list of nine accountability coaching programs and their associated costs.

1 . Shelpful

Shelpful is focused on supporting you on the little things, throughout the day (they do big goals too, but they recognize that life gets in the way, so are available to you to strategize through the day). You choose what kind of help you want: an A.I. Productivity Assistant, a Human Coach or BOTH (a group chat where A.I. and human coach work together to remind you of habits and hold you to them). Their human coaches are called “shelpers” (super+helpers — their version of an accountability buddy/coach) dedicated to keeping you on track with your goals. Your Shelper will send helpful text nudges and reminders for habits, and they get to know you well. They will celebrate the smallest wins with you throughout the day. This service is all about being “there” with you throughout the day, so you know someone will be checking up on you during those key moments – not way after the fact.

Shelpful in a nutshell:

  • Coach or Peer support? Shelpers work directly with Shelpful, and are matched with you. (You also have an option for Shelpful Groups, which has both a coach and peers). If you choose an A.I. buddy, it’ll feel like an assistant who lives to remind you to keep yourself on your list.

  • Where: Available around the world (note: human-only program is limited to the U.S. right now)

  • How it works: If you choose just A.I., you fill out a quick form, and the A.I. buddy, named HabitGPT, messages you immediately to get started. If you sign up for a Hybrid service, which includes the human, you get matched with a Shelper – an experienced, empathetic person whose job is to support YOU with your goals, habits, and daily tasks. They are skilled note-takers and follow up on what you say you will do. Another option: you can join a Shelpful Group of 3-5 people and have a Shelper hold you accountable for your shared goals. This seems to be the only place you can get an accountability group that also has the coach built into the group (the Shelpers for Groups support and check in with everyone in the group, in addition to the group helping each other.)

  • Cadence: They are all about helping you in real time when you need the most support. If you have a human Shelper, they are typically online Mon-Friday in their time zone, and check in with you!

  • Price: Starting at $8.75 per week for just A.I. and $16.25 per week to add a human in. Check the site for discounts.
