Having trouble dragging yourself out of bed? Here are some of the top tips from the Shelpers. We all know the amazing feeling of a productive morning, which is why it’s so common for people to wish for a couple more hours in the morning to add to that productivity. The getting out of bed part of the equation is very often the difference between feeling one step ahead, or feeling one step behind. A lot of people ask for our thoughts on this, so we’ve developed what we think are the best set of tips to check this off for you or anyone you know who’s struggling to get out of bed.
Like anything else, this is a habit you may have to build. It will be hard at first, but you can do it if you keep going.
How can I get out of bed more easily in the morning?
Get to bed earlier with a good wind-down routine at night. Try having some herbal tea as you shut down your house, and turn OFF your screens / put away devices 15-60 minutes before bed. BONUS: charge your phone away from your bed so you aren’t tempted to stay up late scrolling.
Drink a glass of water before bed. Nature’s alarm clock will coax you out of bed and into the bathroom.
Set an alarm that’s out of reach that forces you to stand up to turn it off. In extreme cases, get an alarm clock on wheels, an alarm clock that flies away, or this mat that requires two feet on the floor to turn it off.
Get an alarm clock that eases you into a state of wake, like this sunrise simulating clock.
Set your coffee maker to auto-brew, and wake up to the smell of fresh coffee.
Schedule something - with someone who will notice you are gone. Morning exercise classes where nobody is counting on you to show up don’t always do the job. This can be a phone date with a friend, a business meeting, a coffee date, an exercise date with a friend.
Have someone call you or text you - The classic wake up call still works. It can be embarrassing to ask for this sometimes. A lot of Shelpful members use us for this.
Get natural light in your eyes first thing each morning, to help you sleep better each night. This is the #1 piece of advice from the Huberman Lab sleep toolkit.
